Job Overview

The Mechanical Engineer IV position at Cape Design Engineering (CDE), a subsidiary of 8-koi, focuses on providing expertise in Mechanical Engineering. This role involves leading the HVAC design team across various project types, managing teams, and directly engaging with clients. The candidate will play an integral role throughout the project lifecycle, from initial design to final construction close-out. Additionally, responsibilities include assisting in departmental and office management. CDE / 8-koi is a well-established service and consulting firm based in Florida, recognized for delivering exceptional results for over a decade.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will handle multiple projects related to HVAC and plumbing systems design for buildings and industrial applications. Key duties include:
  • Overseeing multiple HVAC design projects of varying scales through conceptualization, Schematic Design (SD), Design Development (DD), and Construction Administration (CA) phases.
  • Acting as the primary liaison for clients and representing the team in project meetings.
  • Leading Investment Grade Audits (IGAs) initiatives.
  • Coordinating in-house resources effectively.
  • Providing training and mentorship to junior staff members.
  • Supporting marketing and proposal efforts, including presentations.
  • Preparing project budgets and ensuring adherence to timelines and schedules.
  • Planning and securing additional work authorizations as necessary for scope modifications.
  • Conducting standard computations and analyses.
  • Monitoring construction activities.
  • Performing basic survey tasks.
  • Drafting sections of project documentation.
  • Editing specifications as required.
  • Conducting research and investigations.
  • Designing comprehensive projects and preparing complete project documentation.
  • Assisting upper management and staff as a technical expert or advisor.
  • Participating in the review of project documents for compliance and quality assurance.
  • Serving as the technical authority for the mechanical team.
  • Staying updated on new developments and requirements that may impact the organization, recommending necessary changes in programs or applications.
  • Contributing to the development of standards and guidelines.
  • Reviewing complete project documents for compliance and quality assurance.
Additional tasks may be assigned by superiors. The Mechanical Engineer IV will also have managerial duties, acting as both department and project lead. This entails:
  • Reviewing and approving scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments.
  • Preparing proposals for professional services or securing funding for engineering projects or programs.
  • Supervising a project team comprising engineers, technicians, and consultants.
  • Planning, scheduling, or coordinating the preparation of documents or activities for multiple projects or overseeing an entire organizational program.
  • Reviewing operational procedures to ensure compliance with relevant policies and performance metrics.
  • Maintaining CDE / 8-koi Company Standards and Practices.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited four-year institution.
  • At least 8 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer with a focus on facility design.
  • Project management experience is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with Investment Grade Audits (IGAs).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, HAP, and Trane TRACE is required.
  • Competence in Microsoft Windows, Excel, and Word.
  • A Professional Engineer license in the State of Florida is required or the ability to obtain one via reciprocity within 60 days of hire.
  • Additional certifications such as LEED AP, LEED BD+C, or other AEE certifications are advantageous.
  • U.S. Citizenship or a valid US Work Visa (Green Card) is required.
