Role Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer IV plays a pivotal role in delivering Mechanical Engineering expertise for Cape Design Engineering (CDE), a subsidiary of 8-koi. This position leads the HVAC design team across diverse project types, guiding teams and engaging directly with clients. The role encompasses active participation throughout the project lifecycle, from initial design to final construction close-out. Additionally, this position includes responsibilities in departmental and office management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee multiple HVAC design projects of varying scales through conceptual, schematic design, design development, and construction administration phases.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for clients, effectively representing the team in project meetings.
  • Lead efforts in conducting Investment Grade Audits (IGAs).
  • Coordinate in-house resources efficiently.
  • Mentor and train junior staff members.
  • Assist in marketing initiatives, proposal development, and presentation efforts.
  • Prepare project budgets and ensure adherence to timelines and schedules.
  • Plan and secure additional work authorizations as necessary for scope adjustments.
  • Conduct standard computations and analyses.
  • Monitor construction activities and perform basic survey work.
  • Draft portions of project documentation and edit specifications.
  • Engage in research and investigative tasks.
  • Design comprehensive projects and prepare complete project documentation.
  • Support upper management and staff as a technical specialist or advisor.
  • Participate in reviews of project documents to ensure conformity and quality assurance.
  • Act as the technical expert for the mechanical team.
  • Stay updated on new developments and requirements impacting the organization, recommending necessary changes in programs or applications.
  • Contribute to the development of standards and guidelines.
  • Review complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance.
  • Perform any additional related tasks as assigned by superiors.

The Mechanical Engineer IV will also hold managerial responsibilities, acting as both department lead and project lead. This includes:

  • Reviewing and approving scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments.
  • Preparing proposals to deliver professional services or secure funding for engineering projects or programs.
  • Supervising a project team of engineers, technicians, and consultants.
  • Planning, scheduling, or coordinating the preparation of documents or activities for multiple projects or managing an entire program within the organization.
  • Reviewing operational procedures to ensure compliance with relevant policies and performance measures.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer with a focus on facility design.
  • Project management experience is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience with Investment Grade Audits (IGAs) is beneficial.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, HAP, and Trane TRACE is required.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows, Excel, and Word is necessary.
  • Must hold a Professional Engineer license in the State of Florida or be eligible for reciprocity within 60 days of hire.
  • Additional certifications such as LEED AP, LEED BD+C, or various AEE certifications are advantageous.
  • U.S. Citizenship or a valid U.S. Work Visa (Green Card) is required.
  • Active membership and engagement in professional practice organizations is expected.
