Position Overview:

The Commercial Construction Preconstruction Project Engineer role is an integral part of the HITT Futures Leadership program, designed for those starting their careers in construction. This position pairs the Project Engineer with a seasoned superintendent to gain valuable on-site experience over the course of a year. The training encompasses various aspects of construction operations, client engagement, subcontractor relations, project planning, safety protocols, and corporate culture.

Key Responsibilities:Organizational Skills
  • Establish and manage a jobsite office efficiently.
  • Maintain comprehensive jobsite records, including directories and logs.
  • Oversee all onsite construction documentation, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
  • Prepare and update daily reports as required.
  • Revise as-built drawings under guidance.
Site Operations Skills
  • Implement appropriate site signage and safety postings.
  • Identify safety measures prior to demolition activities.
  • Support the installation of building and site protection.
  • Assist in layout tasks for partitions and ceilings.
  • Participate in site inspections to uphold quality standards.
  • Manage specific construction tasks as assigned.
  • Conduct basic material take-offs and manage supplier orders.
  • Interpret basic coordination drawings effectively.
Project Planning and Safety Skills
  • Update project schedules periodically as directed.
  • Assist in inspection processes within project jurisdictions.
  • Support the implementation of HITT's safety program on-site.
  • Facilitate weekly safety meetings and toolbox discussions.
Qualifications:
  • A high school diploma is required; military experience or a four-year degree in construction, engineering, or business is preferred.
  • Prior experience on commercial job sites is highly desirable.
  • A genuine passion for the construction industry and a commitment to quality.
  • Proficiency in software systems such as Microsoft Office, ProCore, and BlueBeam.
  • Physical capability to walk or stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on professionalism.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Commitment to integrity and continuous self-improvement.
  • Flexibility to adapt to evolving technologies and methods.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse teams while maintaining respectful relationships.
