Join the City of Canon City Police Department as a Police Officer and contribute to maintaining public order and protecting the lives and property of Canon City residents, business owners, and visitors.
Job Summary:This role involves performing a variety of duties under general supervision, including law enforcement, patrol, and investigative work. The successful candidate will be responsible for upholding and enforcing federal, state, and municipal laws and ordinances, as well as providing excellent customer service to the public.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform law enforcement duties on an assigned shift, including patrolling City streets and responding to calls for assistance and traffic accidents.
- Uphold and enforce federal, state, and municipal laws and ordinances, including preventing criminal episodes and suppressing civil disturbances.
- Investigate incidents, intervene in disputes, and write reports.
- Control traffic, issue citations, and apprehend criminal suspects.
- Prepare legal paperwork, consult with prosecutors, and testify in court.
- Three (3) years of experience as a Police Officer I in the Canon City Police Department or an equivalent law enforcement agency.
- Completion of Field Training.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Certified Colorado Police Officer.
- Valid Colorado Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within sixty (60) days of hire.
- Four (4) years of experience as a Police Officer I in the Canon City Police Department or an equivalent law enforcement agency.
- Field Training or Skills Instructor certification.
- Advanced Classes totaling 100 hours of training, including leadership training.
- Certifications in advanced police procedures, such as Reid Interview/Interrogation Techniques and Basic or Advanced Crime Scene Investigation.
This role requires the ability to perform physically demanding activities in a variety of settings, including driving, apprehending and subduing persons resisting arrest, and working in hazardous and potentially lethal situations.
Work Environment:This position will be assigned to work various shifts throughout the work week, including Saturday to Friday. The employee will be required to attend occasional City Council meetings and/or other meetings and events outside of normal work hours. Travel within the City of Canon City and Fremont County will be required.
