Role of the Staff Accountant

The Staff Accountant plays a vital role within the Finance department, contributing to various accounting functions and ensuring compliance with established standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general ledger account reconciliations and accurate financial reporting to support management in making informed decisions.
  • Oversee policies and procedures for assigned areas, recommending enhancements for accounting reports and practices.
  • Manage payroll processes, including the review of wages, deductions, commissions, bonuses, and tax obligations.

Specific Duties

  • Assist the Controller with monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including bank accounts and prepaid expenses.
  • Administer bi-monthly payroll, ensuring accurate calculations of commissions and adherence to policies.
  • Reconcile benefits statements and track deductions.
  • Maintain fixed asset registers and review purchases for compliance with company policies.
  • Manage credit card transactions, review charges, and ensure proper documentation.
  • Post monthly rental income and recurring charges.
  • Calculate management fees and perform additional accounting tasks as required.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Proficiency in financial software and accounting technologies.
  • Strong understanding of financial and accounting principles and regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Capacity to multitask, prioritize, and organize effectively.
  • Willingness to learn payroll processing.
  • Knowledge of GAAP accounting standards is essential.
  • Experience in development or property management is preferred.

Educational Background

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • A minimum of two years of professional accounting experience.

Work Environment

  • This position requires a commitment of 40 hours per week, with potential overtime during peak periods.
  • This role is conducted onsite.
  • The Staff Accountant will report directly to the Finance Manager.
