Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop gearboxes, components, and associated accessories (including castings, fabrications, rotating elements, shafts, coolers, and backstops) while adhering to cost and capability objectives.
  • Identify and implement cost reduction strategies for existing products and designs.
  • Oversee engineering tasks and project team priorities to ensure alignment with project milestones and objectives (Stage Gate Process).
  • Generate and support technical documentation (such as catalogs, manuals, and assembly instructions).
  • Coordinate drawing reviews, approvals, and releases.
  • Lead domestic and international design teams.
  • Draft specifications (including design specifications, drafting instructions, and product specifications).
  • Select and integrate components into designs, collaborating with suppliers and vendors.
  • Provide technical assistance to manufacturing personnel.
  • Offer technical support to various departments.
  • Develop test plans, oversee testing, summarize results, and conduct data analysis.
  • Familiarity with GD&T, FMEA, Lean methodologies, and material/component selection is essential.
  • Continuous improvement and proficiency in diverse environments are crucial for success in this role.
  • Experience with PPAP, supplier development, and qualification is advantageous.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently while adhering to timelines.
  • Capture, curate, and disseminate product knowledge within a cross-functional team.
  • Promote a safe working environment by following established safety policies and practices.
  • Exhibit strong business and personal integrity.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with a focus on mechanical design.
  • At least 3 years of experience in mechanical design and development of industrial products or components, ideally with gearing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Project), CAD software (SolidWorks), PDM systems, and ERP systems such as SAP.
  • Knowledge of industrial gearboxes, manufacturing processes, castings, fabrications, forgings, sheet metal parts, fittings, and fasteners acquired through previous experience.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced, metrics-driven environment, effectively prioritize tasks, and manage project plans with urgency.
  • Understanding and experience with the principles, design, and application of various types of gearing (helical, bevel, worm, etc.).
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and video).
  • Capability to develop and manage action plans for assigned technical projects (Project Management).
