Role Summary

We are currently in search of a Principal to oversee our Special Education programs. This role is pivotal in ensuring a secure and effective educational environment that adheres to New York State Common Core Learning Standards and Individualized Education Program (IEP) requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Educational Leadership:

  • Guarantee that the curriculum aligns with NYS Learning Standards and that all educational activities reflect the agency's mission for students with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
  • Supervise instructional programs by selecting appropriate curriculum materials and regularly collaborating with the Director and/or Associate Director to enhance teaching methodologies.
  • Monitor the delivery of educational services as outlined in each student's IEP.
  • Oversee the scheduling of therapeutic services and ensure the quality and timeliness of service-related documentation.
  • Establish and implement procedures for assessing and tracking student progress in accordance with their educational plans.
  • Provide classroom coverage when necessary to maintain educational continuity.

Staff Development:

  • Lead and support teaching staff through effective supervision and guidance.
  • Conduct classroom observations and offer constructive feedback to enhance teaching practices.
  • Facilitate orientation for substitutes, interns, and volunteers, ensuring they are effectively integrated into the educational environment.
  • Coordinate professional development programs to equip staff with the necessary skills to meet student needs.
  • Prepare and conduct performance evaluations in line with agency and educational standards.

Community Engagement:

  • Maintain regular communication with parents and family members to foster strong relationships.
  • Act as the primary liaison with school district officials, community organizations, and other stakeholders to ensure quality service delivery.
  • Participate in relevant meetings to advocate for student needs and collaborative support.

Operational Management:

  • Make key decisions regarding hiring, discipline, and termination of school staff.
  • Ensure timely completion of all necessary documentation related to school operations, including regulatory compliance and attendance records.
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of the school budget.
  • Oversee safety protocols and maintenance of school facilities.
Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Special Education, along with Permanent NYS Certification in Special Education and Certification as a School Administrator and Supervisor (SAS) or School Building Leader (SBL).
  • Experience in supervisory roles within a special education setting and familiarity with relevant regulations.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to build relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage sensitive situations effectively.
