Position Summary:

As a Marine Operations Assistant, your primary role will involve supporting various farm operations, including the planting, upkeep, and harvesting of clam and oyster beds. You will collaborate closely with the Dredge Boat Operator to manage all facets of boat operations during high tide and assist with diverse projects as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the dredge boat is maintained in optimal working condition for daily operations.
  • Work alongside the boat operator to guarantee safe and efficient task completion.
  • Conduct basic preventative maintenance tasks, including engine checks, cleaning, oil changes, and painting.
  • Execute assigned tasks on the shellfish beds as directed.
  • Exhibit knowledge of clam and oyster cultivation practices throughout the year, understanding the locations and maintenance needs of the beds.
  • Transport small crews in a skiff to perform planting and harvesting tasks as instructed by the farm manager.
  • Operate various farm machinery, such as pallet jacks, forklifts, and boats.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work safely in adverse weather conditions typically encountered on the tide beds and boats.
  • Complete necessary paperwork and maintain accurate records.
  • Adhere to farm safety protocols and comply with health and safety guidelines.
  • Provide support for additional duties as needed.
  • Assist with farm organization and cleanup as directed.
  • Perform other assigned responsibilities.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • At least six months of relevant experience in construction, manufacturing, farming, or a related field.
  • Prior experience operating boats is essential.

Preferred:

  • A valid driver's license is advantageous.
  • Boat operator's licenses are preferred.
