Underwriting Professional Development Program

Key Responsibilities:
  • Under direct supervision, underwrite and assess risk for less complex accounts in a market segment.
  • Establish effective relationships with customers, agents, and brokers.
  • Develop consultative sales and marketing skills through interaction with agents/brokers and coaching from your manager.
  • Develop negotiation skills through interaction with agents/brokers and coaching from your manager.
  • Develop planning and organization skills necessary to effectively manage your desk and assume a territory.
  • Effectively collaborate with others on all aspects of the job.
  • Understand the need to seek enterprise-wide solutions to business problems.
  • Take initiative for personal development and seek to learn through underwriting, marketing, and other related opportunities.
Requirements:
  • Entry-level position.
  • Educational background/courses in Business Administration/Management, Finance/Accounting, Economics, Mathematics/Science, Sales/Marketing/Communications preferred.
  • Demonstrate an ability, desire, and intellectual curiosity to learn the business.
  • Business Perspective: Use knowledge of internal and external factors impacting the property & casualty industry to make decisions.
  • Analytical Thinking/Financial Acumen: Identify current or future problems or opportunities, analyze, synthesize, and compare information to understand issues, identify cause/effect relationships, and explore alternative solutions to support sound decision-making.
  • Understand and use financial information, tools, and expense management principles to accomplish day-to-day work and maximize profitability.
  • Relationship Management: Seek out, build, foster, and maintain productive relationships, networks, or alliances to meet goals and achieve results.
  • Valid driver's license or alternate means of personal transportation.
