Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Position Overview:

The Engineering Technician Associate role serves as the foundational level within the Engineering Technician classification series and is situated in Kansas City, KS. Qualified candidates may be appointed at a higher level based on their experience and qualifications. This position enables KDOT to train and cultivate construction (or technician) personnel to fulfill essential duties. The employee undertakes assignments and acquires experience while in a training capacity.

Key Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assisting in the management of construction contracts to ensure that work is executed in accordance with legal standards and desired quality is attained. This will necessitate adherence to specific instructions and established standards.
  • Engaging in various fundamental engineering and mathematical tasks that require following guidelines and maintaining accurate and comprehensive records of that work.
  • Performing or aiding other technicians or engineers in conducting routine engineering tests in the laboratory or field, or inspecting construction projects for compliance with standard practices, specifications, plans, and special provisions. This encompasses tasks such as conducting or assisting in the testing of aggregate gradation and other standard assessments.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver's License at the time of appointment.

Post-Offer/Pre-employment Requirements:

  • A CDL must be obtained within 90 days of hire and maintained. KDOT provides CDL training at no cost to the employee.
  • This position is subject to pre-employment physical testing. The selected candidate will be required to pass the screening as a condition of employment.
  • This CDL position is subject to drug and alcohol testing under the authority of the US Department of Transportation. The selected candidate will be required to pass a DOT pre-employment/pre-duty drug test as a condition of employment in this position. (This position will also require participation in random testing, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return-to-duty, and follow-up testing.)
  • Any Commercial Driver who has received a Confirmed Positive Result or the Equivalent and has not successfully completed all Rehabilitation Program requirements and follow-up testing requirements is not eligible for this position.
  • Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate required in accordance with Executive Order. Each applicant (even non-residents) who is selected for a State of Kansas job vacancy must apply for a Tax Clearance Certificate within 10 days from the date of the offer letter.
