Traffic Control Coordinator

GPI is in search of a Traffic Operations Specialist who will play a crucial role in managing the daily functions of the Traffic Management Center (TMC). This center operates around the clock, overseeing a vast network of traffic signals and monitoring numerous traffic surveillance systems. The TMC Specialist will be responsible for observing traffic conditions through a sophisticated video wall and modifying traffic signal operations based on real-time roadway incidents.

The role involves various responsibilities, including:

  • Monitoring incident management cameras and traffic signal systems to detect potential issues on roadways.
  • Communicating with emergency services and public works, as well as disseminating information through electronic message signs.
  • Facilitating coordination among office staff, field personnel, and various governmental agencies to alleviate traffic congestion and respond to roadway emergencies.
  • Managing both scheduled and unscheduled traffic events.
  • Dispatching maintenance personnel as necessary to resolve any technical issues with signals or cameras.
  • Receiving comprehensive on-the-job training, which is compensated.

Qualifications:

  • An Associate's degree from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of relevant experience in monitoring surveillance systems or traffic management is advantageous.
  • Availability for overtime during special events and emergencies is required.
  • Proficiency in computer systems, particularly in a Windows environment, including Microsoft Office.
  • A foundational understanding of IP-based networking is beneficial.
  • Capability to work independently and make prompt decisions is essential.
  • Reliable transportation is a must.
