Position Overview:

The Practical Nurse Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering nursing care to a designated group of patients, adhering to the organization's philosophy of patient care and established standards of professional nursing practice.

This role involves reporting to the Charge Nurse and ultimately the Clinical Nurse Manager, functioning as an integral member of the treatment team.

Collaboration with various disciplines within the unit is essential to ensure comprehensive patient care.


Educational Requirements:

Beyond the foundational skills acquired through a High School education, candidates must have successfully completed an accredited licensed practical nursing program and hold a valid Rhode Island nursing license.


Licensure:
Current and active LPN license is required.

Professional Experience:
Previous experience in behavioral health and/or skilled nursing environments is preferred. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is also necessary.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
Candidates must possess good manual dexterity and visual acuity. The role requires mental alertness and stamina to thrive in a fast-paced environment, particularly during emergency situations. Physical capabilities include standing, walking, bending, and reaching without limitations, as well as the ability to lift weights ranging from 25 to 50 pounds using proper body mechanics. The position may involve pushing heavy equipment, gurneys, and wheelchairs. Exposure to various patient care elements within the facility is expected, along with potential risks associated with needle punctures and other safety hazards. Compliance with annual safety training as per facility policy is mandatory. Flexibility to work designated hours, including weekends and holidays, is required.
