Assistant Attorney General, Criminal Litigation Section

The Virginia Office of the Attorney General is seeking a qualified attorney to work in the Criminal Appeals Section of the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Division. This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to serve the Commonwealth of Virginia and contribute to the administration of justice.
Responsibilities- Represent the Commonwealth in criminal appeals in the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court of Virginia.
- Handle habeas corpus and other post-trial litigation at all judicial levels in both state and federal courts.
- Provide advice and assistance on other matters related to criminal law and procedure, including legislative issues before the Virginia General Assembly.
- Good academic record.
- Excellent legal writing, research, and oral communication skills.
- Superior analytical ability, objectivity, and maturity of judgment.
- At least one year of experience as a licensed attorney.
- One to three years of judicial law clerk, trial, or appellate experience is highly desirable.
