Job Summary
The Office of Disciplinary Counsel (ODC) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Chief Disciplinary Counsel. This critical role is responsible for regulating the conduct of lawyers practicing in Delaware, ensuring the integrity of the legal profession, and upholding the public trust.
Key Responsibilities
- Screen and evaluate information related to lawyer conduct and practice in Delaware, identifying potential disciplinary issues and taking appropriate action.
- Investigate complaints and allegations of lawyer misconduct, gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses as necessary.
- Make recommendations to the Court and other relevant agencies regarding disciplinary action, including prosecution of cases before the Court and negotiation of settlements.
- Supervise and assign work to non-legal staff, ensuring the efficient operation of the office.
- Provide guidance and education on the Delaware Lawyers' Rules of Professional Conduct through Continuing Legal Education programs and other channels.
- Perform other tasks and investigations as directed by the Court or necessary to regulate the practice of law in Delaware.
Requirements
- Graduation from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Minimum 10 years' experience as an attorney, preferably in litigation, including participation in hearings and preparation of matters for trials and appellate proceedings.
- Membership in good standing of the Delaware Bar.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to navigate complex and emotionally charged situations.
