We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Care Technician to join our team at the University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our nursing team in delivering high-quality care to our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Obtain and record vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
- Perform medical asepsis when performing skills and tasks, including phlebotomy, peripheral IV removal, and Foley catheter removal.
- Carry out simple diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, such as enemas, preoperative preparation of the skin, dressing changes, collecting specimens, and applying binders and braces.
- Assist with patient admission, transfers, and discharges.
- Provide for patients' personal hygiene and comfort.
- Turn, position, and ambulate patients.
- Transport patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies.
- Feed patients, serve drinking water and nourishments, and record patients' intake.
- Assist patients with bedpans and urinals and record output.
- Participate in nursing care conferences and report pertinent patient information and incidents to the nurse in charge.
- Provide for patient comfort measures through social interactions.
- Share responsibility for preparation, proper use, and care of equipment and supplies, and for neatness and cleanliness of the unit.
- Ability to read, write, and follow instructions.
