Job Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Animal Care and Enrichment Technician to join our team at Humane Society Silicon Valley (HSSV). As a key member of our animal care team, you will play a vital role in enhancing the lives of animals and people through maintaining exemplary standards of care for animals in our care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Animal Care and Enrichment: Perform daily cleaning of animal spaces, monitor health and behavior status of all animals, and maintain welcoming animal spaces that meet the enrichment needs of the animals.
  • Supply Management: Unload, store, and replenish all animal care supplies, and maintain clean and organized supply storage areas and workstations.
  • Animal Intake and Housing: Assist in the housing of animals from animal control trucks, transport vehicles, and public intake, and complete and ensure accuracy of paperwork for animals.
  • Humane Euthanasia: Assist and perform humane euthanasia of shelter animals and animals owned by members of the public with compassion and empathy, following best practices and minimizing fear, anxiety, and stress.
  • Administrative Tasks: Handle data entry for incoming animals and day-to-day activities, and assist with other job duties as needed.
Requirements
  • Animal Care Experience: Experience caring for animals is a must, with a shelter or kennel setting being a plus.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate an attitude of consideration and courtesy to all members of the public, volunteers, and employees.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to perform a wide variety of cleaning tasks to a high standard, including routine exposure to animal excrement and blood, and to lift and carry weights of up to 50 pounds floor level to waist height frequently.
  • Computer Skills: Familiarity with computer database applications.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and ability to work on your feet all day, able to bend, squat, lift, walk, and stand for the majority of an 8-hour shift.
Work Environment

Hours are based on organizational needs, and may include weekend shifts on a regularly scheduled basis. Depending on staffing needs, overtime may be required.
