Position Summary

The Community Services Associate plays a vital role in our operations, serving as the first point of contact for individuals involved with animals in various situations. This position requires a strong customer service orientation and the ability to work closely with both the public and internal teams. Comprehensive training in safe animal handling will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote a cooperative atmosphere by working harmoniously with shelter staff and volunteers to achieve HSSV's mission and ensure an outstanding experience for both customers and animals.
  • Exhibit a positive, can-do attitude while demonstrating empathy and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Maintain a clean and welcoming environment for visitors and manage lobby operations.
  • Respond to inquiries from customers via phone, email, and in-person, ensuring a courteous and professional demeanor.
  • Accurately document information related to incoming animals and daily operations, including behavioral assessments and medical histories.
  • Coordinate and confirm surgical appointments, ensuring all pre-and post-operative documentation is completed accurately.
  • Assess customer needs and maintain updated knowledge of available resources for animals.
  • Process applications for owner surrenders and assist with food distribution to pet owners.
  • Handle monetary transactions and maintain accurate cash register records.
  • Adhere to all veterinary protocols as mandated by relevant laws.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a customer service role is essential; experience in veterinary or animal-related fields is preferred.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.
  • Bilingual skills, particularly in Spanish, are advantageous.
  • Proficiency in database management, scheduling systems, and Microsoft Office Suite is necessary.
  • A positive and compassionate attitude towards animals and people, along with sound judgment skills, is essential.
  • Ability to multitask in a dynamic and emotionally charged environment while remaining adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Detail-oriented with the capability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Effective communication skills and a courteous demeanor towards all individuals are crucial.
  • Ability to interact safely with a variety of animals, including those that may be aggressive or in distress.
  • Physical capability to handle animals and lift items weighing up to 40 lbs.

Work Schedule

This position requires availability for 24 hours per week, including one weekend day.
