Position Summary
The Instrument Engineer will provide essential engineering support across production, maintenance, and project departments, ensuring the reliability of instrument and control systems while addressing recurring instrument-related challenges.

Key Responsibilities
The role encompasses a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Identifying and recommending appropriate instrumentation for diverse process measurement needs.
  • Offering technical assistance to Maintenance, Operations, and Environmental teams regarding instrumentation matters.
  • Creating job scopes and drawing packages for minor instrumentation and electrical projects.
  • Collaborating with the Project Group to specify instrumentation for capital initiatives.
  • Evaluating project design packages to ensure they meet reliability, application, and maintenance standards.
  • Maintaining an up-to-date instrumentation database, documenting tags, manufacturers, models, calibration, and history.
  • Ensuring comprehensive documentation for all instrumentation and electrical equipment, including files, drawings, specifications, and manuals.
  • Staying informed about advancements in instrumentation technology and design changes that could enhance plant operations.
  • Working to enhance the reliability of process gas chromatographs and mass spectrometry analyzers, providing technical support for upgrades.
  • Supporting the Asset Management System (AMS) to bolster reliability through predictive maintenance strategies.
  • Continuing the development of the wireless instrumentation system in designated areas.
  • Improving the reliability of process control valves by monitoring performance and addressing issues, while assisting Maintenance in developing repair scopes for major turnarounds.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Actively participating in continuous improvement initiatives and operational excellence projects.
  • Reporting any Safety, Health, or Environmental concerns to management promptly.

Qualifications
Candidates should possess:

  • A valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably in electrical or chemical disciplines.
  • A minimum of three years of industrial engineering experience, ideally within a refinery, chemical, or petrochemical environment.
  • Successful completion of background checks, including motor vehicle record screening, drug testing, and pre-employment physical assessments.

Physical Requirements
The role may require frequent sitting, standing, walking, and the ability to lift or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities needed include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.

Work Environment
The work environment is typically moderate in noise level, with some tasks performed in operational units requiring personal protective equipment. Exposure to outside elements may occur, necessitating the use of stairs and elevators.
