Job Summary:

The Family Care Nurse is responsible for providing direct nursing care to patients in accordance with established policies and procedures. The nurse maintains knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit. The nurse facilitates the coordination of patient care within the interdisciplinary care team and provides patient education to ensure safe patient discharge.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily rounds on all patients to ensure quality customer service and coordinate action on any requirements not met.
  • Develop a plan of care based on assessment that reflects the patient's physical, psychological, social, educational, developmental, and rehabilitative needs.
  • Assess the patient's condition and nursing needs, set goals, and prescribe appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals and the physical, psychological, social, and rehabilitative needs of the patient.
  • Assess, intervene, and reassess the patient's self-report/symptoms of pain promptly and take appropriate action according to standard operating procedure.
  • Identify the early warning signs of a change in a patient's condition and respond appropriately to a deteriorating patient.
  • Report pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate multidisciplinary team member and record those observations accurately and concisely.
  • Establish and maintain communication and utilize educational opportunities with patients and other significant individuals.
  • Begin discharge planning, education, and counseling based on identified needs to optimize patient/family understanding.
  • Assign or delegate the responsibility for performance of nursing interventions to other persons for which that person has the necessary skills and competence to accomplish safely.
Certifications and Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse - North Dakota Board of Nursing (NDBON) or Compact State Agreement
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)

  • Temporary RN license accepted prior to start.
  • ND RN Graduate Work Authorization considered prior to start.
  • Must hold an unencumbered nursing license prior to start.
