Job Objectives:

This role is a collaborative effort among various agencies in Orange County, forming part of the Partnership Innovation for Older Adults Initiative aimed at engaging individuals aged 55 and above who have unmet needs related to behavioral health, substance use, and aging.

The responsibilities of the Gatekeeper Program Coordinator encompass educational outreach to Community Gatekeepers—non-traditional referral sources who may encounter older adults in their daily professional activities.

The Compeer Program Coordinator's duties involve providing personalized support to older adults by fostering meaningful friendships, promoting community involvement, and connecting them to essential resources.

All tasks should be performed while actively endorsing an environment that aligns with MHA's Cultural Equity Policy and WELCOME Orange.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver training in a culturally and linguistically sensitive manner to various stakeholders, including law enforcement, senior center personnel, clergy, human service providers, and business owners, to help them recognize, identify, and refer older adults facing behavioral health and/or substance use challenges for assessment and linkage to appropriate services.
  • Conduct educational workshops for the broader community to raise awareness about the challenges faced by aging adults, reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness, enhance access to mental health care, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and support independent living within the community.
  • Provide individualized support to older adults, focusing on identifying and managing social determinants of health.
  • Assist older adults in overcoming isolation, achieving social connections, forming friendships, attending regular medical appointments, utilizing local resources, and offering companionship to identify changes in behavior or living conditions that may necessitate additional support or care.
  • Facilitate Compeer Calling to ensure ongoing contact and continuity of care.
  • Organize and maintain comprehensive program information and volunteer records.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and statistical reports as required for the Partnership Innovation for Older Adults Initiative and Compeer Program.
  • Manage and input program data into the Scorecard website.
  • Oversee the creation and delivery of educational workshops and public awareness initiatives for the community.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field;

OR

NYS licensure and current registration as a Registered Nurse along with a bachelor's degree;

OR

A Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC).

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in either:
  • Providing direct services to adults diagnosed with mental disabilities, developmental disabilities, and/or substance use;

OR

  • Connecting individuals diagnosed with mental disabilities, developmental disabilities, or substance use to a wide range of services essential for successful community living.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Public speaking experience is a plus.
  • Experience in providing training is advantageous.
  • Must be organized, self-driven, and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in crisis situations and adhere to confidentiality regulations.
  • Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record for agency insurance coverage.
  • Must maintain a clear record under the Medicaid Fraud & Abuse clearance process.

Employment Terms / Benefits:

  • Non-Exempt.
  • 40 hours per week (Flexible to meet program needs).
  • Paid holidays, Paid Time Off, and sick leave according to MHA policy.


Compensation details: $21-21 Hourly Wage
