Afghan Community Health Worker Position

The Union of Pan Asian Communities is seeking a highly motivated and culturally sensitive Afghan Senior Community Health Worker to join our team. This is a full-time position that will provide health, wellness education, and social activities to Afghan and Spanish speaking seniors in the North County region.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and implement outreach, engagement, and education for prevention and early intervention of mental health services in culturally and ethnically appropriate approaches and strategies.
- Provide education on mental health and wellness utilizing program-created curriculum and/or evidence-based curriculum.
- Assist fellow Community Health Workers in promoting the program in the East County/Region and other areas as needed.
- Provide referrals to additional services in the community and language interpretation in Afghan languages as needed.
- Participate in monthly planning activities with the EMASS Team and attend various County and other meetings as requested.
- 1 year's minimum experience conducting outreach in the older adult community.
- Bilingual/bicultural in Afghan languages, including Pashto.
- Knowledge of the San Diego mental health system as a consumer, family member, or advocate.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Commitment to cultural competence and willingness to work with a diverse group of community members and clients.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee will spend approximately 70% of work time sitting and meeting with others or working at a desk and/or computer, and 30% of work time standing or walking within the work area or outside the office at meetings and events.
The salary for this position is $20-$22 per hour, and the employee must have a valid driver's license and comprehensive automobile insurance coverage, as required by law.
