POSITION SUMMARY:
The Quality Assurance Engineer II plays a crucial role in ensuring the integrity and excellence of our products at Sargent Aerospace & Defense. This position involves a blend of technical expertise and customer engagement to uphold our commitment to quality.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
CUSTOMER ENGAGEMENT
• Address and investigate customer complaints and product returns through Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) as necessary.
• Assist customers during on-site audits and evaluations to ensure compliance with standards.
• Analyze customer contracts, purchase orders, specifications, and drawings to ensure clarity and compliance.
• Facilitate access to customer portals for quality assurance processes.
QUALITY ENGINEERING FUNCTIONS
• Develop, modify, and enforce technical quality engineering tasks, including Material Review Reports (MRRs), Corrective Action Reports (CARs), and other quality documentation.
• Collaborate in the design and application of formal quality methodologies such as process mapping, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), control plans, and inspection protocols.
• Establish supplier quality criteria to ensure alignment with both customer and organizational standards.
• Lead and support Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (Gage R&R) studies, defining inspection techniques and tools.
• Actively participate in daily TIER II meetings to report on Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ), MRR effectiveness, and Return Material Authorization (RMA) status.
QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
• Assist in the development, revision, and enhancement of Quality Management System (QMS) procedures, work instructions, and forms.
• Respond to customer surveys and questionnaires, serving as the point of contact for site visits.
• Engage in the QMS Internal Audit program to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT AND ANALYSIS
• Lead problem-solving initiatives and collaborate on quality enhancement projects.
• Conduct data analysis to identify trends and opportunities for reducing COPQ and improving MRR effectiveness.
• Facilitate root cause analysis and the planning and execution of corrective and preventive actions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial, or Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline, accompanied by a minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing.
• Alternatively, a Master's degree in Engineering or a related field with at least 1 year of relevant engineering experience.
• An Associate degree in a relevant engineering field with 5 years of applicable manufacturing, process, or quality engineering experience may also be considered.
• In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 9 years of engineering-related experience along with a high school diploma or GED is acceptable.
• Proficiency in quality tools such as root cause analysis, measurement system analysis, process reviews, and failure mode effects analysis.
• Comprehensive understanding of Quality Management System standards and the ability to interpret technical drawings, including GD&T requirements.
• Experience with ISO 9100 / AS9100 Quality Systems is preferred.
• Competence in tracking and analyzing quality metrics, statistical control analysis, and critical thinking methodologies.
• Strong analytical and creative thinking skills for developing effective quality solutions.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
• A Bachelor of Science degree is advantageous.
• Certification from ASQ as a Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) is preferred.
• Familiarity with DFARS regulations and AS9100 internal auditor certification is a plus.
• Experience in Continuous Improvement methodologies, Lean, and Six Sigma, with Green Belt training being beneficial.
• Previous experience with Material Review Boards and as a customer-delegated inspector is desirable.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to work at a desk and utilize a computer for extended periods.
- Capability to navigate various work environments, including office and manufacturing settings.
- Willingness to remain on the manufacturing floor while adhering to safety protocols.
