Healthworks Safety, LLC is seeking a dedicated Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) to enhance our team.
The SSHO will oversee the safety and health initiatives specific to projects, ensuring adherence to regulations and safeguarding the welfare of employees, subcontractors, and the public.
This role requires a thorough evaluation and coordination of project activities to align with the standards established by EM385-1-1, OSHA CFR 1926, and internal policies, as well as site-specific safety regulations.
Experience with the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), crane operations, and knowledge of concrete work and silica exposure is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage in safety pre-planning and conduct hazard assessments for upcoming tasks.
- Collaborate with project superintendents and team members to review project timelines.
- Attend necessary pre-planning and coordination meetings.
- Deliver Site-Specific Safety Orientation for all personnel upon site entry.
- Maintain required safety documentation for employees and subcontractors.
- Ensure daily Safe Work Plans and Permits are completed by contractors and reviewed with work crews prior to commencing activities.
- Implement record-keeping and reporting protocols as mandated by regulatory bodies and company policies.
- Assist in developing Activity Hazard Analyses (AHA's) for subcontractors, securing necessary approvals.
- Conduct regular safety audits, documenting findings and corrective actions in ProCore.
- Facilitate weekly All Hands Safety Meetings.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, completing necessary reports.
- Provide training and coaching for observed at-risk behaviors.
- Uphold The Haskell Company Code of Safe Practice across the project.
- Support the project superintendent in maintaining a safe work environment.
- Issue necessary permits for hot work, trenching/excavation, and confined spaces.
- Accompany authorized personnel during safety inspections.
Qualifications:
- At least 5 years of experience in construction safety.
- Completion of OSHA 30-hour construction course within the last 3 years.
- EM385 40-hour certification (to be obtained within 90 days of hire).
- Knowledge of crane and rigging operations.
- Completion of OSHA Course #500 (trainer certification).
- Strong understanding of EM385-1-1, OSHA CFR 1926, and the ability to enforce relevant regulations.
- Competency in fall protection, scaffolding, confined spaces, and crane activities.
- Familiarity with electrical safety and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Understanding of mobile equipment operations.
- Ability to identify hazardous situations and implement corrective actions.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Commitment to ongoing safety education, maintaining at least 8 hours annually.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires the ability to perform ordinary ambulatory skills to visit various locations, along with the capacity to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift/move light to medium weights (10-50 pounds).
Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity are necessary, including the ability to grasp and visual acuity for operating equipment and reading documents.
The role may involve sitting, reaching, talking, and hearing as part of regular duties.
