Safety Specialist Job Description

ASRC Industrial Services (AIS) is seeking a highly skilled Safety Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for advising, consulting, and guiding operations in safety, health, and environmental matters in the Construction, Heavy Equipment, and Excavation Penetration Program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the administration of a construction, heavy equipment, and excavation penetration permitting safety program.
  • Maintain knowledge of safety policies and procedures and perform assigned duties in a safe manner.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with regulatory, client, and contemporaries to foster a professional image of the company.
  • Administer safety, accident prevention, housekeeping, environmental, and other safety-related programs.
  • Provide guidance to management through interpretation of company OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Inspect, monitor, and evaluate project safety programs for value and effectiveness.
  • Maintain liaison with owners' representatives, insurance carriers, the safety and health community, and the corporate safety department.
  • Conduct investigations of project accidents and obtain and protect collected data.
  • Maintain records, reports, and documents required to meet corporate or regulatory requirements.
  • Acquire and maintain safety awareness programs and foster awareness within the project.
  • Create and administer an orientation program for project employees.
  • Plan and coordinate safety and health classes for craft and supervisory employees.
  • Conduct, direct, and assure regular inspections of the workplace to evaluate for accident prevention measures.
  • Analyze safety problems and recommend solutions.
  • Conduct evaluations of specific areas to detect safety, health, or environmental conditions.
  • Conduct routine inspections, monitoring, and analysis of work areas; have knowledge of all equipment used.
  • Prepare, maintain, and retrieve reports and documentation concerning the portion of the safety program assigned.
  • Develop safety awareness and foster this awareness throughout the company or project.
  • Accept assignments within the safety department and perform specific duties as may be required.
  • Research and assist in the development of safety policies both on the project and company level.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrated understanding of developing programs that will address inadequacies in the safety and health program.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable rules and regulations, including OSHA, EPA, or company policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to create, evaluate, and administer company policies and procedures concerning safety, health, and environmental matters.
Education and Certifications:

Bachelor of Science in Safety, Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, or other related degree required, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.

Relevant professional certification(s) preferred (i.e. ASP, GSP, CIH, CSP, CHP, OHST, SMS, and/or CHST), or must have the ability to obtain professional certification.

Ability to obtain a security clearance required.
