Job Overview

The Senior Cost Accounting Specialist plays a crucial role in the continuous upkeep of the Cost Accounting System, focusing on the evaluation of standard costs, purchase price variances, and the analysis of inventory adjustments. This position reports directly to the Director of Finance and Controller.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Management of the Cost Accounting System:

  • Execute journal entries and maintain ledger accounts.
  • Oversee the cycle count program and report results, including sourcing and freight costs by commodity group.
  • Analyze variances in costs and purchase prices.
  • Provide management with essential performance reports.
  • Regularly update and monitor standard costs.
  • Review both standard and actual costs for discrepancies.
  • Authorize adjustments related to inventory as needed.
  • Maintain the Customer Assets Register and close Production Work Orders.
  • Reconcile General Ledger accounts and resolve inventory discrepancies.
  • Ensure accurate transaction reconciliations.

2. Data Collection and Reporting:

  • Gather and monitor cost-related data, preparing reports as necessary.
  • Coordinate and facilitate financial audits of the Cost Accounting System, ensuring compliance with established procedures.
  • Assist in the month-end closing of the general ledger and participate in audits.
  • Engage with external auditors, providing necessary information and reports.
  • Support the maintenance of the customer assets register and assist in periodic audits.
  • Deliver revenue and aged inventory reports to management.
  • Contribute to the development of internal procedures as required.

3. Month-End Closing Activities:

  • Oversee month-end closing activities for local plants.
  • Execute all closing functions and reports, ensuring accuracy and balance.
  • Prepare and audit financial close related to costing and inventory.
  • Review and approve monthly journal vouchers and inventory reconciliations.
  • Coordinate with financial auditors for interim and year-end audits.
  • Prepare management schedules regarding inventory status and necessary adjustments.

Additional Responsibilities:

Perform other duties related to the Cost Accountant role as assigned.

Qualifications:

1. Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.

2. Certifications: CMA or CPA preferred.

3. Knowledge: Strong understanding of GAAP principles.

4. Experience: At least 10 years in financial analysis, cost accounting, and general ledger.

5. Industry Background: Minimum of 5 years in a manufacturing environment.

Compensation: Pay range is competitive and commensurate with experience.
