We are seeking a highly skilled Trades Specialist to join our Facilities Management team at West Virginia University. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing journeyman-level pipefitting, steam fitting, maintenance, installation, and repair work on various systems, including steam distribution, chilled water, and heating water distribution systems.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in piping and steam distribution systems, with a minimum of 6 months of technical/vocational training and 2 years of experience in the maintenance and repair of these systems. You will be responsible for interpreting blueprints and specifications, requisitioning parts and materials, and performing maintenance duties as assigned.
You will also be required to maintain and repair steam distribution systems, including steam traps, pressure relief valves, condensate returns, expansion joints, steam-rated valves, and pressure regulating valves. Additionally, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing lavatory sinks, water closets, fire hydrants, sprinkler systems, domestic water, distilled water systems, sewage systems, and deionized water systems.
Responsibilities- Perform journeyman-level pipefitting, steam fitting, maintenance, installation, and repair work on various systems.
- Interpret blueprints and specifications, requisition parts and materials, and perform maintenance duties as assigned.
- Maintain and repair steam distribution systems, including steam traps, pressure relief valves, condensate returns, expansion joints, steam-rated valves, and pressure regulating valves.
- Install, maintain, and repair lavatory sinks, water closets, fire hydrants, sprinkler systems, domestic water, distilled water systems, sewage systems, and deionized water systems.
- Repair, maintain, and install high and low pressure gas systems, including compressed air, natural gas, nitrogen, oxygen, and gas fire extinguishing systems.
- Operate equipment such as hole saws, reciprocating saws, concrete saws, and hammer drills to penetrate walls, beams, floors, and other barriers for the purpose of installing piping systems.
- Remove non-asbestos insulation and lagging material from piping systems to ensure proper diagnosis and repairs can be made.
- May be required to move, load, and carry all materials and equipment necessary to complete all phases of assigned maintenance and construction projects.
- May be required to assist in the effort of moving any existing conditions which interfere with the flow of the project.
- Perform general maintenance duties in assisting other trades and operations.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 6 months technical/vocational training plus 2 years' experience in the maintenance and repair of piping and/or steam distribution systems.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain proper attendance and punctuality standards.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain average or above work standards.
- Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to sketch line drawings.
- Demonstrated ability to work on scaffolds and ladders at various heights.
- Demonstrated knowledge of usage of metric system pertaining to unit.
