Wind Energy Major Component Specialist

Wind Energy Major Component Specialists focus on significant corrective exchanges at designated Wind Turbine locations, adhering to established protocols while prioritizing health, safety, and environmental standards. These specialists engage in tasks such as cleaning, organizing, disassembling, and reassembling large wind turbine components. They may assist in dismantling, erecting, aligning, adjusting, and maintaining machinery and equipment in accordance with installation manuals, work instructions, layout plans, blueprints, and other technical drawings. Climbing at least 300 feet to perform work at elevated heights is a requirement. Certified Wind Energy Technicians must uphold all necessary certifications for their role. Specialists are assigned to various projects over a rotation period and are expected to travel to remote client locations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with site leadership to fulfill all contractual obligations and activities outlined with clients daily, which may encompass any aspect of electrical, mechanical, or balance-of-plant equipment on site.
- Execute repairs or replacements of mechanical, hydraulic, and/or electrical components to rectify malfunctions.
- Conduct large component exchanges on Wind Turbine Generators (WTG).
- Occasionally perform maintenance on equipment, including cleaning, greasing, and lubrication.
- Lead and/or assist with various daily operational tasks as directed by management, with minimal supervision.
- Coordinate with the engineering support team for additional troubleshooting and diagnostic assistance as needed.
- Complete and maintain all required documentation and records for both the company and clients, utilizing computer-based service reporting tools and procedures.
- Ensure tools, equipment, and work areas are clean and organized, including sweeping, mopping, and addressing oil, grease, and solvent spills.
- Operate a motor vehicle safely and legally in accordance with company policies and insurance requirements.
- Maintain necessary training certifications for the position, including at a minimum: OSHA 10, NFPA 70E, CPR/AED - First Aid.
- Perform torqueing and tensioning of multiple bolted connections in compliance with installation manuals and bolt torque specifications.
- Test electrical components and systems, as well as mechanical and hydraulic systems.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical issues.
- Be prepared to assist and provide first aid when necessary and perform tower rescues if required.
The qualifications listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Active GWO Basic Safety Training certificate is preferred.
- A minimum of one year of experience working with heavy equipment is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, assembly/disassembly instructions, operation and maintenance manuals, and procedural documents.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Team-oriented attitude with professional customer service skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a diverse team.
- Proficiency in using technology applications and devices.
