The z/OS Storage Systems Architect / Systems Programmer plays a critical role in delivering top-tier technical support for mainframe storage systems at a statewide level. This position involves designing, monitoring, and managing SMS storage pools for both application and system data, implementing robust backup processes for all z-series data, and assisting in the planning and acquisition of storage hardware. Additionally, the Architect evaluates storage-related software, assesses compatibility, conducts cost/benefit analyses, and recommends necessary modifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert technical support for z/OS storage systems.
  • Design and manage SMS storage pools effectively.
  • Implement and oversee backup processes for z-series data.
  • Assist in planning for storage hardware acquisition and configuration.
  • Evaluate and recommend changes to storage-related software.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in information systems focusing on z/OS storage systems and related software.
  • Possession of an Associate's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, along with five years of relevant experience.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or Computer Science, accompanied by three years of relevant experience.
  • A Master's degree in a related field with at least one year of experience in z/OS storage systems.

Preferred Skills:

  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Experience in configuring and supporting HDS DASD environments.
  • Proficiency in SMS/DMS, including ACS routines and maintenance of Storage Groups.
  • Demonstrated project management capabilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with various stakeholders.
