Join Our Team as a z/OS Storage Systems Architect
The State of Oregon's Enterprise Information Services (EIS) is seeking a highly skilled z/OS Storage Systems Architect. EIS is a pivotal state government IT organization that oversees the management, planning, and policy development for information technology resources across various state agencies. Our mission is to ensure the integrity, security, and consistency of IT services through collaboration and support.
The z/OS Storage Systems Architect plays a crucial role in providing expert technical support for mainframe storage systems at a statewide level. This position involves designing, monitoring, and managing SMS storage pools for both application and system data. The Architect will implement and support backup processes for all z-series data, and assist in the planning and acquisition of storage hardware, including its configuration and implementation. Additionally, the Architect will evaluate storage-related software for compatibility, conduct cost/benefit analyses, and recommend necessary changes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and manage SMS storage pools for application and system data.
- Implement and support backup processes for z-series data.
- Assist in planning for storage hardware acquisition and configuration.
- Evaluate storage software and perform compatibility assessments.
- Conduct cost/benefit analyses and recommend changes as needed.
Qualifications:
- Seven (7) years of experience in information systems with a focus on z/OS storage systems and related software.
- An Associate's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, combined with five (5) years of relevant experience.
- A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, along with three (3) years of relevant experience.
- A Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, with one (1) year of relevant experience.
Desired Skills:
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience in configuring and supporting HDS DASD environments, including replication technologies.
- Proficiency in SMS/DMS, including coding and maintaining ACS routines.
- Strong project management skills and experience.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
