Position Overview:

Job Summary

The Senior Research Specialist plays a pivotal role in guiding, designing, and executing intricate projects utilizing advanced social science research methodologies and statistical techniques. This position is integral to the college's research and planning initiatives, aimed at delivering critical data and insights for policy development, program assessments, state compliance, and informed decision-making processes.

Key Responsibilities:

The following duties exemplify the expectations for this role:

  • Collaborate with institutional leadership to establish a comprehensive research and planning framework, including program evaluations, accreditation processes, and initiatives aimed at enhancing student success and institutional effectiveness.
  • Lead extensive institutional research projects, overseeing all phases from conceptualization and hypothesis formulation to data gathering, analysis, and interpretation, ensuring findings are presented clearly for diverse audiences.
  • Develop research methodologies and tools for various projects, focusing on student performance metrics, assessment accuracy, and institutional effectiveness.
  • Assess research projects to determine appropriate statistical methods and create investigative protocols, employing innovative research techniques and advanced statistical analyses.
  • Provide training and technical support to faculty and staff during program evaluations and strategic planning, facilitating the development of research instruments for data interpretation.
  • Identify and secure necessary data resources, ensuring the integrity and reliability of collected data through effective program-specific data management.
  • Create systems and visual tools to analyze and report on data related to academic programs, enrollment trends, and student demographics.
  • Work alongside faculty and leadership to integrate assessment outcomes into institutional planning and decision-making processes.
  • Design and deliver professional development sessions on topics such as assessment strategies, program reviews, and data literacy.
  • Engage with the broader research community to stay abreast of trends in institutional research and data acquisition, representing the college at various forums.
  • Analyze external research findings and their implications for the college, conducting literature reviews and identifying emerging trends in higher education.
  • Develop recommendations for policies and procedures based on comprehensive program analyses.
  • Participate in governance committees and institutional projects as a representative of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Research, and Planning.
  • Perform additional duties as required related to the primary responsibilities of the position.

Qualifications:

Education: A Master's degree in Social Science, Psychology, Sociology, Behavioral Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Business, Economics, or a related field from an accredited institution.

Experience: A minimum of four years of research experience, including at least one year in institutional research or a similar role within higher education.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with complex datasets and involvement in program or college planning within an educational institution.

Core Competencies: Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, proficiency in statistical software, and the ability to communicate complex information effectively.
