Job Summary

As a Surgical Technologist First Assistant at SSM Health, you will play a vital role in assisting surgeons during various surgical procedures. Your expertise and attention to detail will ensure a smooth and successful operation.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize surgical instruments with precision and skill, as directed by the surgeon.
  • Provide exposure of the operative site through the use of retractors and other instruments, and through suctioning and sponging.
  • Suture tissue with the appropriate suture materials and techniques, handling all varieties of tissue to reduce potential for injury or compromised blood supply.
  • Anticipate and plan individualized care based on advanced knowledge of the surgical procedure, and anticipate unexpected patient and surgeon needs.
  • Prepare equipment, supply, and resource needs based on an individualized plan of care, re-evaluating and modifying resource needs as needed.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to perform all aspects of a variety of surgical procedures, implementing a plan of care that incorporates physician-prescribed treatments, nursing assessments, and diagnostic data in a manner that is prioritized, timely, and integrated with the plan of care.
  • Perform in a variety of surgical specialties as needed, demonstrating competence in delegation, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and team building.
  • Evaluate care given by team members and provide feedback, effectively supervising team members and maintaining accountability for the standard of care provided.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree or Clinical Certification
  • Three years' experience
  • State of Work Location: Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Wisconsin
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Certified First Assistant - American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA)
  • Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
