Covenant House California (CHC) is a dedicated non-profit organization committed to serving young individuals facing homelessness and trafficking. We are excited to announce the opening of a new Transitional Housing Program in Santa Clara and are seeking qualified Overnight Youth Engagement Specialists (YES) to join our residential team.

Position Summary:

The Youth Engagement Specialist plays a crucial role within our multidisciplinary team, ensuring the safety and well-being of youth in our housing programs. This position involves overseeing daily operations and adhering to our mission and values. Responsibilities include providing supervision, support, and a positive role model for youth, while also managing crises and maintaining program policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise program activities and maintain facility standards.
  • Ensure safety and awareness in various situations.
  • Conduct daily operations in line with established guidelines.
  • Provide professional and welcoming communication at the front desk and over the phone.
  • Implement crisis prevention and intervention strategies.
  • Build rapport with youth and maintain healthy boundaries.
  • Encourage youth participation in activities and programs.
  • Directly supervise youth during on-site activities and community outings.
  • Stay informed about community resources available to clients.
  • Teach essential life skills, including personal hygiene and household management.
  • Lead skill-building workshops as assigned.
  • Maintain consistent communication with the multidisciplinary team through shift notes and reports.
  • Attend training sessions and team meetings as required.
  • Function as a designated Person in Charge (PIC) when necessary.
  • Conduct daily inspections of common areas for cleanliness.
  • Be punctual and present for all scheduled shifts and meetings.

Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma required; Bachelor's Degree in Human Services or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience in a residential program.

Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years working with youth aged 18-24.

Skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities, organizational skills, and proficiency in computer applications (Word, Outlook, Excel). Must be a proactive team player.

Transportation: Valid CA driver's license and reliable transportation required.

Working Conditions: General office environment; ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and perform tasks requiring prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and bending.

Knowledge: Understanding of adolescent development, crisis intervention, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction practices.
