Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Licensed Vocational Nurse II to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide exceptional care and support to individuals with complex medical, mental health, and/or behavioral health issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer medications and treatments, and assist other medical staff in examining and caring for patients.
  • Make rounds and/or home visits as needed, and work in other locations as required.
  • Perform complex and technical nursing procedures, such as tracheostomy care, gastrostomy/jejunostomy care, wound care, and breathing treatments.
  • Collect specimens for laboratory examination and conduct screening tests as requested.
  • Monitor individuals' weight, diet, feedings, and vital signs, and report any changes or concerns to the RN and/or Primary Care Provider.
  • Document and report pertinent treatments and observations in the individual's medical record, and recognize symptoms of illness and report accurately to the RN and/or Primary Care Provider.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, individuals, and their family members, and provide education and support as needed.
  • Assist RNs with implementation of protocols, procedures, and programs to improve overall health and safety, and assist with on-the-job training and instruction of new LVNs.
Requirements:
  • Current licensure as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in the state of Texas.
  • Knowledge of nursing care standards, procedures, and techniques, and of emergency procedures and equipment.
  • Ability to assess and care for residents and/or staff members in emergency situations, and to communicate effectively with individuals, family members, and staff.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records, and to use an electronic health record system once trained.
  • Current CPR certification and ability to safely perform CPR.
Working Conditions:

This position is available for Morning, Evening, and Night shifts on multiple homes, and may require working in other locations as needed. The successful candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
