Key Responsibilities

The Nursing Team Leader serves as both a formal and informal authority within the unit. This role involves collaboration with management to facilitate daily operations and coordinate the assigned work unit. Responsibilities include delegating patient care based on skill level, experience, patient needs, fiscal responsibility, and resource availability. The Team Leader is responsible for leading initiatives such as staff development, education, committee participation, quality improvement, and engagement in evidence-based practices and research. This position ensures the coordination of nursing care, which encompasses direct patient care, education for patients and families, and effective transitions of care. The Team Leader upholds professional nursing standards across various settings and throughout the continuum of care to address the needs of patients and their families. This role operates within the Mayo Nursing Care Model, which entails accountability for planning, executing, assessing, and communicating all aspects of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice serve as the foundation for the RN's practice.

Qualifications

Must be a graduate of a baccalaureate nursing program.

Preferred: At least one year of RN experience in a relevant care environment.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience in a collaborative team setting.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, making informed decisions and directing patient flow to optimize unit efficiency.
  • Proven leadership skills, effective communication abilities, and strong critical thinking capabilities.
  • Adaptability to dynamic situations within the workplace.
  • Proficient computer skills; prior experience with electronic medical records is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the specialty area of the work unit is preferred.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, typically Monday through Friday, with potential on-call duties outside regular hours.

Licensure or Certification:

Must possess current RN licensure from Florida.

Basic Life Support certification is mandatory upon hire.

Additional specialty certifications or training may be required based on the work area.
