Position Title: Child Development Center Teacher

Compensation: Hourly Rate: $20.00

Role Summary:

This full-time teaching role at our Child Development Center in Seattle, WA, involves the planning and execution of activities tailored for a designated classroom. The Child Development Center Teacher must possess a solid understanding of child development, demonstrated through professional references, educational background, and practical experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement developmentally appropriate programming, including crafting weekly lesson plans aligned with children's needs and interests.
  • Create an anti-bias, culturally relevant curriculum.
  • Organize the classroom environment to meet the evolving needs of children and stimulate their curiosity.
  • Establish and maintain classroom discipline while fostering a positive learning atmosphere.
  • Exhibit strong teaching practices and knowledge of child growth and development through role modeling.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all children.
  • Attend to the physical care, safety, and well-being of every child in the group.
  • Engage in staff meetings to discuss program activities and improvements.
  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding their children's progress and general child development topics.
  • Participate in Sea Mar-sponsored and community events.
  • Actively engage in the Intergenerational Program, facilitating meaningful interactions between children and Home Care Residents through well-planned activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of child growth and development, enabling them to plan activities and utilize materials that promote problem-solving and independent play. The CDC Teacher should be adept at instructing adults and interacting appropriately with all children. A willingness to accept supervision and maintain positive relationships with children, colleagues, and parents is essential. The candidate must also meet the social, emotional, physical, and developmental needs of children, maintain a safe and healthy environment, and possess knowledge of nutrition, health, and first aid. Observing and documenting children's behavior and maintaining educational records is a critical aspect of this role. The candidate should also be prepared to work effectively with children and families with special needs and disabilities.

Language Proficiency:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.
  • Ability to read and comprehend Early Childhood Education journals and reports.
  • Capability to address common inquiries or concerns from families.

Education and Training Requirements:

  • AA degree required; CDA or equivalent in Early Childhood Education is necessary.
  • 30 hours of initial STARS training required within the first six months of employment.
  • Two years of experience in a childcare setting is mandatory.
  • Experience in relating to children and families from diverse racial and economic backgrounds is essential.
  • Completion of HIV and Child Abuse and Neglect training as required.

Certifications and Licenses:

  • Must possess and maintain a current Food Handlers Permit and complete the required annual TB test.
  • This position requires obtaining Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification within 90 days of hire and maintaining current certification throughout employment.
