We are seeking a highly skilled Crisis Worker to join our team at Sinai Chicago. As a Crisis Worker, you will play a critical role in providing emergency mental health services to patients in crisis.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments of patients presenting to the emergency department in crisis.
- Recognize patients suffering from acute symptoms of suicidality, homicidality, agitation, psychosis, mania, intoxication, anxiety, and other presentations, and determine the need for hospitalization.
- Work closely with on-call psychiatric providers and ED attending physicians to determine appropriate disposition and provide immediate stabilization as needed.
- Facilitate medical evaluations to determine patient medical stability and be familiar with psychotropic medications.
- Be knowledgeable about legal documents such as voluntary admission forms, certificates, and petitions, and facilitate transfers to and from other hospitals.
- Assist licensed clinicians in formulating psychiatric diagnoses and provide patients with referrals to community agencies and substance abuse treatment programs.
- Communicate effectively with patients, family members, ED staff, and outside agencies such as CPD, CFD, SASS, and nursing homes.
- Must be able to type at least 50 wpm.
- Familiarity with Medicaid, Medicare, MCOs, and commercial insurances, and ability to complete pre-certifications as needed.
