Position Overview

Course Overview:

The Neuroanatomy course is designed to introduce students to the fundamental biology of neurons and their interconnections. Participants will delve into the anatomy and physiology of the brain, exploring various systems through the lens of hypothetical neurological cases. Key areas of focus will include the cerebral cortex, subcortical structures, and the visual processing system. This interactive course incorporates multimedia resources and hands-on activities, such as constructing models with creative materials, engaging in sheep brain dissections, and conducting laboratory demonstrations to provide a comprehensive understanding of neuroanatomy.

Instructor Role:

Session Availability: Instructors may apply for one or multiple sessions of this program, and should indicate their availability in their application.

Online Instruction Responsibilities: Instructors will be tasked with delivering the Education Unlimited curriculum, supervising students in a virtual environment, organizing and leading interactive labs (with materials provided to students), and coordinating a final showcase of student projects. Additionally, instructors will be responsible for monitoring student progress and submitting necessary reports to the camp director.

In-Person Instruction Responsibilities: Instructors will teach the Education Unlimited curriculum, oversee students both inside and outside the classroom, facilitate hands-on labs, and coordinate a final showcase of student work. They will also be responsible for tracking student progress and submitting reports to the camp director.

Beyond teaching duties, instructors are expected to assist the camp director with supervision, recreational activities, and some administrative tasks. Candidates should demonstrate maturity, reliability, and the ability to collaborate effectively with fellow staff members. Instructors will also serve as mentors, guiding students during field trips and excursions, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment.

For overnight programs, instructors have the option to commute daily or stay on campus, with overnight staff receiving full room and board and participating in evening supervision duties.

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates are typically experienced science educators, graduate students in scientific fields, or individuals with substantial teaching or mentoring experience in neuroanatomy.

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience teaching neuroanatomy or possessing significant subject matter expertise.
  • Experience working with high school students in an educational context.
  • Bachelor's degree required; preference for candidates with advanced degrees.
  • A genuine passion for science education.
  • Professional demeanor and self-motivation.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
