As a Building Engineer, you will be responsible for providing assistance and support in the repair, maintenance, and installation of mechanical equipment, machines, tools, and equipment, and in maintenance of buildings, grounds, and utility systems of commercial real estate establishments.
Key Responsibilities- Repair, maintain, and install machines, tools, and equipment to ensure continuous operations.
- Perform maintenance activities on utility systems to provide continuous supply of heat, steam, electric power, gas, or air required for operations.
- Assist in ongoing preventive maintenance program in conjunction with other engineering and maintenance staff.
- Inspect operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards.
- Identify low levels in department inventory; maintain inventory including proper storage and knowledge of use.
- Assist in compliance with Hazard Communication Program, including Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), labeling, storing and handling of materials, etc.
- Assist with the identification of safety procedures, equipment and protective clothing requirements.
- Respond to work orders as directed by management.
- Assist in the application of key control policies and procedures.
- Some travel may be required.
- Regular and predictable attendance at the Company's place of business during scheduled work hours is an essential function of this job, unless otherwise required by federal, state or leave of absence laws.
- Working knowledge of Building Automation Controls preferred.
- Periodically perform on call and overtime duties as outlined by Chief Engineer.
- 5+ years experience as a full time Engineer in an office or commercial building, facilities environment.
- Experience in tenant facing setting preferred.
- Able to work in and maintain a professional manner in a highly visible, public environment.
- Ability to work overtime, including responding to after hours calls as needed, and nights/weekend shifts may be required.
- Experience EMS/BMS systems, Experience with commercial HVAC and Electrical systems required.
- Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Basic knowledge of computer.
- Valid drivers license is required.
- Read, analyze, and interpret general technical procedures or governmental regulations.
- Write reports and business correspondence.
- Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and clients.
- Basic knowledge of machinery, electrical, plumbing, and painting disciplines.
- Read and interpret blueprints, plans, and drawings and follow detailed written instructions and procedures outlined in the technical manuals.
- Proficient in the English language.
- Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Self-motivated, team-oriented, dependable, responsible, flexible and professional.
- Journeymans level license or acceptable equivalent skill level of all mechanical and control systems including the following: Plumbing, HVAC, and electrical.
- 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Grade Engineer License may be required.
- Refrigerant certification, required.
- Licenses required by state/province or local municipalities may be required.

The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. Must be able to move throughout the property, including up and down ladders and stairwells. May occasionally be exposed to machine noise and inclement weather conditions. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
