Job Title: Physics Specialist

At Troy University, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Physics Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for recruiting high school science teachers to participate in AMSTI / ASIM, implementing a flexible communication system for scheduling labs, and preparing activities/labs and supplies for the lab.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Recruit high school science teachers to participate in AMSTI / ASIM
  • Implement a flexible communication system for scheduling labs
  • Prepare activities/labs and supplies for the lab
  • Deliver activities/labs and supplies to participating AMSTI / ASIM teachers as scheduled
  • Provide on-site support and mentoring for new or beginning teachers whenever possible
  • Assist with laboratory activities, deliver on-site professional development, and provide other training as needed
  • Provide coaching to teachers to help increase their skills and move them to higher performance levels on the Alabama Continuum for Teacher Development based on the Alabama Quality Teaching Standards
  • Coordinate work with the AMSTI site
  • Pick up activities/labs and supplies from participating AMSTI / ASIM teachers in a timely manner
  • Order, organize, and maintain activities/labs and supplies so they are readily available for classroom use
  • Plan and implement workshops to train high school science teachers to use AMSTI / ASIM activities/labs
  • Teach teachers the content background, how to use the activities/labs, and how to effectively lead students through the lab
  • Plan and implement workshops to train high school science teachers in other areas of science education such as laboratory safety, Science Course of Study, and other topics as needed
  • Work with AMSTI / ASIM teachers and other specialists in developing new lab activities for high school students
  • Attend statewide specialist meetings
  • Participate in the continual improvement and implementation of AMSTI / ASIM
  • Establish and maintain open communication with the SDE, project director, and teachers
  • Facilitate in a timely preparation and submission of the quarterly financial reports that include proper categorization of expenditures
  • Organize, properly update, and promptly submit Program Report information (visits, class roster, workshop attendance, AMSTI / ASIM inventory, and workshop agendas)
  • Communicate regularly regarding use of the AMSTI / ASIM activities/labs and training for AMSTI directors, project directors, system superintendents, principals, and teachers
  • Facilitate the cleaning and maintenance of the AMSTI / ASIM vehicle
  • Collaborate with AMSTI site director and specialist
  • Assist AMSTI program with the development and piloting of the new activities/labs as requested
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Valid Alabama Certificate in Secondary Science Education
  • Minimum of five years of high school-level teaching experience in a related field
  • Valid state driver's license
  • Ability to learn background content, how to utilize the activities/labs, and how to communicate the information to teachers and students
Work Hours:

Standard office hours, 40 hours per week, with occasional additional work hours as needed.
