Physical Therapist

We are seeking a highly skilled Physical Therapist to join our team at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital. As a Physical Therapist, you will play a critical role in helping patients recover from injuries or illnesses and regain their independence.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate patients' functional status and develop individualized treatment plans to improve mobility, strength, and overall function.
- Conduct thorough assessments, including range of motion, strength, reflexes, tone, posture, gait, orthotic or prosthetic fit, and sensorimotor function.
- Develop realistic, functional goals with patients and their families, incorporating interdisciplinary and patient-centered approaches whenever possible.
- Employ principles of teaching and learning to educate patients and their families in knowledge and skills promoting functional restoration of mobility.
- Perform treatment according to established plans, utilizing various modalities, equipment, and techniques within the scope of physical therapy.
- Document patients' status and progress through initial evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries, adhering to established internal and external time standards and reimbursement guidelines.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care, rehabilitation programs, and related activities.
- Participate in case conferences, care rounds, and family meetings to progress patients toward rehabilitation goals and discharge planning.
- Re-evaluate patients, assess their progress, and make recommendations for discharge planning, revising treatment plans as necessary.
- Maintain professional standards by participating in inservices and hospital/department requirements.
- Delegate, direct, and supervise implementation of care to PTA, PCT, and physical therapy students.
- Evaluate patients' need for medical equipment and work with discharge planning/physicians to order necessary equipment, instructing patients, families, and healthcare workers on its use.
- Participate in planning for patient discharge, considering and communicating with patients, families, community support/services, and environmental limitations.
- Follow hospital policy and procedures related to infection control.
- Meet or exceed program productivity expectations.
- Provide discipline-specific coverage within the Sparrow Hospital system as requested.
- Support program operations as assigned.
- Graduate of an American Physical Therapy Association accredited Physical Therapy program.
- State of Michigan PT licensure.
- Possess and maintain CPR certification to meet department/program protocol (within 6 months of hire).
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, ability to perform multiple tasks, and adapt to changing work situations.
- Able to demonstrate knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of patients serviced in assigned service areas.
- Experience in physical disabilities.
- Minimum of two years experience in inpatient rehabilitation.
Physical Therapists work as part of a team under the direction of a supervisor and/or manager, often supervising physical therapy assistants and rehab support staff. They work with physicians, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, and other specialists in well-lighted, comfortable, well-equipped surroundings. The job can be physically and mentally exhausting, requiring standing for long periods, moving equipment, and helping patients turn, stand, or walk.
