Job Title: Senior Counsel for Commercial Regulatory Affairs

The City of New York is seeking a highly qualified Senior Counsel for Commercial Regulatory Affairs to join our team. As a key member of our legal department, you will play a critical role in advising on complex commercial and regulatory matters.

Job Summary:

The Senior Counsel for Commercial Regulatory Affairs will serve as a key legal advisor to the Department of Correction, providing guidance on commercial and regulatory matters. This includes advising on procurement processes, contract administration, and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will have a strong background in commercial law and regulatory affairs, with experience in managing teams and providing strategic advice.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Advise on commercial and regulatory matters, including procurement processes and contract administration
  • Provide guidance on regulatory compliance and ensure that the Department of Correction is in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations
  • Manage a team of attorneys and administrative staff, providing guidance and support as needed
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with commercial and regulatory requirements
  • Represent the Department of Correction in various legal proceedings, as needed
Requirements:
  • Admission to the New York State Bar
  • Four years of recent full-time responsible, relevant, satisfactory legal experience subsequent to admission to any bar, eighteen months of which must have been in the supervision of other attorneys, in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity, or performing highly complex and significant legal work
  • Excellent writing, communication, inter-personal, analytical, research, problem-solving, multi-tasking and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain and handle confidential documents and information
  • Ability to interact with other city agencies, including Department of Investigations, New York Police Department, and District Attorney's offices
Preferred Skills:
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage a team of employees in a legal setting
  • Excellent writing, communication, inter-personal, analytical, research, problem-solving, multi-tasking and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain and handle confidential documents and information
  • Ability to interact with other city agencies, including Department of Investigations, New York Police Department, and District Attorney's offices
