Water Resources Driver

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced CDL driver to join our team at the Water Resources Department. As a CDL driver, you will be responsible for operating a hook lift/roll off truck and tractor with dump trailer combination in the disposal of solids from the Lynchburg Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility.
Key Responsibilities:- Operate a 5 or 6 axle, 75,000 pound road tractor dump trailer combination while transporting and disposing of wastewater solids.
- Operate a 3 or 4 axle, 55,000 pound hook lift/roll off truck while transporting and disposing of wastewater solids.
- Coordinate loads with solid waste management facility staff and WWTP staff to ensure loads reach the solid waste management facility at the appropriate times.
- Unload WWTP solids from the vehicle at the solid waste management facility site and wash excess material from the outside of the truck to prevent spillage on the highway.
- Perform minor PM and maintenance on trucks, canisters, and trailers, such as light bulb replacement and lubrication of dogs and rollers.
- Make necessary VDOT equipment checks.
- Keep and maintain records, such as manifests, truck inspection DOT logs, and other required documents.
- Operate backhoe or similar equipment as needed.
- Assist with snow removal at the plant site.
- Service and make minor repairs and adjustments on equipment.
- Clean trucks and other equipment.
- Assist plant operations staff as requested.
- Collect and properly handle samples from loads.
- Operate WWTP equipment as required.
- Make checks of plant equipment as required.
- Respond to emergency calls.
- Operate other equipment, such as forklifts, front end loaders, and dump trucks.
- Maintain logs of all pertinent operational events and chemicals used, and record readings from meters and instruments.
- Start up, shut down, regulate, and/or adjust motors, pumps, blowers, air compressors, valves, boilers, grinders, and other apparatus to meet changing operating conditions.
- Collect samples of raw sewage, primary treatment effluent, and grit.
- Remove grease from settling tanks, rake bar screens, and clean and clear basins, troughs, and other components.
- Measure sludge quantities in tanks.
- Make minor or emergency repairs.
- Clean and maintain plant spaces.
- Enter data into computer systems.
- Adjust chemical feed rates.
- Fill chemical hoppers and handle hazardous chemicals.
- Operate sludge hauling equipment.
- May work in tanks and well as required, work is at times performed in confined spaces.
- Perform other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens as required.
- When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable experience in the operation of heavy motorized equipment.
- Possession of a valid Virginia Class "A" commercial license.
- Relevant background checks must be completed and approved, including pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
- Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment.
