Job Overview:
The Food Preparation Specialist plays a vital role in fostering culinary skills among students by planning, preparing, and serving a variety of nutritious meals, both hot and cold, in an efficient manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations of the school food service program.
- Guide and mentor students in meal planning, preparation, and serving processes.
- Demonstrate expertise in food preparation and safety protocols.
- Manage the cooking and monitoring of the food preparation program.
- Procure necessary supplies for the food service operations.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen tools and equipment.
- Ensure meals served are diverse and nutritionally balanced, adhering to portion control.
- Thrive in a dynamic environment while managing multiple tasks effectively.
- Possess knowledge of various cooking techniques, including grilling, baking, and boiling.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and manage supply orders.
- Adhere to safety policies in food storage and handling.
- Organize kitchen supplies and equipment for optimal accessibility.
Additional Duties:
- Assist in various tasks as required.
- Provide support during emergencies, including student health issues.
- Possess at least one year of relevant experience.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have proven experience in food preparation, preferably in an educational setting. The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and multitask is essential. Knowledge of diverse cooking methods is required.
Cultural Sensitivity:
Ability to engage with students and staff in a manner that respects cultural and socioeconomic diversity.
Skills:
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- High energy and enthusiasm for culinary arts.
- Experience working with children with special needs is preferred.
Education:
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Physical Requirements:
Candidates must be able to meet physical demands, including lifting up to 40 pounds and passing annual physical assessments as required by the agency.
