Sterile Processing Technician

Job Summary:

As a Sterile Processing Technician at Covenant Health (Tennessee), you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest level of patient care by properly decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, and sterilizing surgical instruments. This is a challenging and rewarding position that requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment.

Responsibilities:

• Decontaminate surgical instruments according to manufacturers' instructions or advised by department leadership
• Operate all decontamination equipment, including washer disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, cart washer, and automatic endoscope reprocessor (AER)
• Inspect instruments after decontamination to ensure they are clean, intact, functional, and accounted for
• Assemble trays in a manner that ensures device sterility and presents a tray that is easy for the end user to access for use
• Package or containerize instrument sets according to manufacturers' guidelines and Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) standards
• Load sterilizer carts to ensure packaged items are not punctured or compromised
• Run daily sterilizer tests on all steam and low-temperature sterilizers
• Operate sterilizer according to manufacturers' instructions, ensuring load biological monitoring
• Document all load contents, interface load to tracking system, load cycle confirming correct parameters, monitor sterilizer to tracking system information, and record all pertinent information (biological, mechanical, and chemical)

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• No prior experience required, but a combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill, and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job
• Must take and pass an accepted Central Processing exam through either IAHCSMM (International Association for Healthcare Material Management) as a Certified Registered Sterile Processing Technician (CRCST) or through CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing Technicians) as a Certified Sterile Processing Distribution Technician (CSPDT) within 2 years of entry-level employment in the position
