Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Diesel Repair Shop Assistant Manager to join our team at Knight Transportation. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for providing support to shop leadership, determining best cost value parts solutions, and continually enhancing shop performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Support to Shop Leadership: Assist terminal leadership in identifying areas for improvement and provide guidance on best practices.
  • Determine Best Cost Value Parts Solutions: Identify and implement cost-effective parts solutions to enhance shop performance.
  • Enhance Shop Performance: Continuously explore new added value opportunities to improve shop efficiency and productivity.
  • Maintain Shop Records: Ensure accurate and up-to-date records of tire count, inventory, outstanding invoices, and contracts.
  • Identify Warranty Coverage: Determine warranty coverage for equipment repairs and ensure correct filing of warranty claims.
  • Identify Chronic and Repetitive Repair Issues: Analyze and determine optimal solutions for chronic and repetitive repair issues.
  • Evaluate Service Quality: Continuously evaluate and improve service quality metrics for assigned locations.
  • Provide Hands-on Training: Train technicians on best practices and new technologies.
  • Mentor and Develop Technicians: Mentor and develop technician mentors to ensure productivity and efficiency standards are met.
  • Create, Review, and Monitor Work Orders: Effectively create, review, and monitor work orders in a safe and timely manner.
  • Assign and Schedule Work: Proactively assign and schedule work to technicians to ensure efficient use of resources.
Qualifications
  • Previous Mechanical Experience: Preferably 2+ years of experience in a mechanical role.
  • OSHA, DOT, and CSA Compliance: Familiarity with OSHA, DOT, and CSA regulations and compliance.
  • Management Experience: Prior management experience in a similar role.
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite and online parts ordering systems.
  • Team Player: Strong team player with a focus on collaboration and teamwork.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
