The Commodity Trading Associate role is an entry-level position focused on developing and applying trading skills in origination, sales, and execution within a specified market.

This individual will gain insights into market analytics, foster customer relationships, engage in the buying and selling of commodities, manage logistics, oversee contract administration, and handle accounts receivable.

The Associate is expected to cultivate and sustain customer connections on the origination side of the business as well as with end users and transportation partners.


Key Responsibilities:
Understand market trends and key indicators to become adept at navigating complex market dynamics.
Develop the ability to make informed buying and selling decisions.
Capture supply within the designated region.
Engage with customers, share ideas, and articulate opinions.
Formulate and communicate insights regarding market conditions.
Ensure customer transactions comply with Scoular Trade Finance's counterparty limits.
Familiarize with Scoular's risk management tools.
Fulfill reporting obligations.
Assist in or lead logistics planning and execution strategies, including knowledge of truck/rail logistics and commodity arbitrage.

Understand systems and procedures that support execution documentation.
Negotiate freight agreements.
Establish and maintain diverse business relationships within the marketplace.

Provide customers with precise market information and address inquiries related to their transactions, such as settlements.
Under the guidance of their Manager, gradually add sales customers to their contract list as market knowledge increases.
With support from Senior Merchants and the Manager, begin to develop effective, ongoing interactions with both current and prospective customers.
Build trading relationships with both origin and destination customers.
Manage contracts, including reconciling balances with customers.

Qualifications:
A college degree in a business-related field or equivalent experience.
Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to build relationships.
Capability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Highly organized and detail-oriented.
Willingness to travel as necessary.
Preferred:
1-2 years of experience in merchandising.
Demonstrated understanding of grain markets, hedging, and commodity flows.
Knowledge of trading standards and procedures within the agricultural industry.
Proven aptitude in accounting and financial practices.
