Senior Accountant Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant to join our dynamic team in the Construction industry. This is a permanent, full-time position that offers an exciting opportunity to play a key role in our financial operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable/receivable, cash receipts, general ledger, payroll, and utilities.
  • Prepare and maintain financial reports, perform account reconciliations, assist with budget and close processes, conduct internal audits, and maintain control systems.
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
  • Manage and monitor all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget, financial forecasts, and report variances.
  • Prepare for annual audits and coordinate with the external auditors as necessary.
  • Implement and maintain comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk.
  • Create financial reports based on data analysis, and provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision-making issues affecting the organization.
  • Make recommendations for system improvements, implement new systems, and train staff in their use.
  • Ensure the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements regarding finances, tax filings, and reporting.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A Master's degree or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or a related field, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Proven experience with ledger and account reconciliation, as well as preparing financial statements and tax reports.
  • Strong knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations.
  • High proficiency in MS Excel and familiarity with accounting software packages.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, combined with excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of construction industry accounting practices will be a significant advantage.
