Job Description

Blue Origin is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager to lead our Spacecraft Operations team. As a key member of our Test and Flight Operations team, you will be responsible for building and managing strategic technical capabilities essential to the operation of spacecraft with diverse concepts of operation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Team Leadership: Directly manage a team of 8 – 20 team members skilled in the disciplines of Spacecraft Mission Operations, Flight Operations Engineering, Service & Customer Operations Management, Mission Planning and Operations Product Development.
  • Project Management: Assist the Mission Element Director with the management of budget, schedule, and personnel for the Flight Operations team.
  • Process Improvement: Help establish standards for repeatable and cost-effective mission operations execution, working to continuously improve team performance and create a culture of operational excellence.
  • People Development: Develop and manage the people, processes, and tools essential for best-in-class performance in these subject domains.
  • Real-Time Leadership: Provide real-time leadership to the execution of complex space missions, including test and demonstration flights of new technology.
  • Workforce Management: Cultivate an evolving, rightsized workforce across on-console crew and development staff; oversee performance, merits, and promotions; shepherd team members' careers through coaching, opportunity matching, and technical development.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers representing flight vehicle systems, ground software, flight control operators, and customers.
  • Leadership Skills: Dedication to building a cohesive team through leadership, problem-solving skills, and strong listening and communications skills.
  • Quality Assurance: Provide expertise, ensuring that your team's deliverables meet domain quality standards.
  • Benchmarking: Benchmark the team's work standards and tools with other Blue Origin business units and industry trends.
  • Best Practices: Exemplify best practices, balanced technical judgment, and superior work ethic.
Requirements:
  • Education: B.S. in Aerospace, Electrical, Computer Science, Systems, or related fields.
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience managing technical teams and/or leading functional groups, with responsibility for technical quality of work delivered, and career management of employees.
  • Technical Expertise: 10+ years of proven experience in spacecraft operations.
  • Configuration Management: Experienced in configuration and product data management, including Jira / Confluence.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Trust and Relationships: Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
