Overview:
The Emergency Medical Technician is responsible for evaluating, planning, executing, and monitoring the care of patients in pre-hospital settings and during inter-facility transfers.
Care is provided in alignment with the policies and procedures of Magnolia Regional Health Center, as well as the regulations set forth by the Mississippi Department of Emergency Medical Services.
This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. The EMT must maintain proficiency in critical skills relevant to various age groups, including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Continuous education on current practices and trends in emergency medical care is essential.Working in Emergency Medical Services is inherently high-risk, necessitating a composed demeanor, resilience, and a readiness to face potential hazards.
Exposure to hazardous materials, infectious agents, and bodily fluids is a possibility, as well as risks associated with vehicle accidents and interactions with potentially aggressive individuals.
Educational Qualifications:
A high school diploma or GED is mandatory. Completion of an Accredited Emergency Medical Technician Program is required. Additionally, a background in healthcare education is preferred.
Licensure and Certification:
Candidates must hold a Registered National Emergency Medical Technician certification and a State Emergency Medical Technician license in Mississippi. A valid driver's license is also required.
Possession of a valid EMS driver's license issued by the Emergency Medical Services Division of the State Board of Health is essential. Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS must be maintained.
Experience:
Applicants must be at least 21 years old.
Communication Skills:
Proficiency in English is required, and multilingual abilities are advantageous.
The EMT must communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues, management, and external stakeholders across all levels.
Mathematical Proficiency:
Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations, including addition and subtraction of two-digit numbers, as well as computing ratios, rates, and percentages.
Critical Thinking Skills:
The role requires the application of sound reasoning skills when interacting with patients, visitors, and team members. Strong critical thinking abilities are essential, along with reflective judgment that supports informed decision-making.
Successful candidates will demonstrate analytical skills that encompass interpretation, evaluation, and explanation of relevant considerations in their judgment process.
