About the Role

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Music Therapist to join our team at the Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute. As a Music Therapist, you will play a vital role in providing music therapy services to adults with serious mental illness, addiction issues, physical and intellectual deficits, and those who have experienced trauma.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform individual assessments and evaluations to develop personalized music therapy plans
  • Deliver high-quality music therapy services through group and individual interventions
  • Plan and facilitate therapeutic interventions that promote hope, recovery, and community reintegration
  • Document attendance and progress according to hospital and departmental policy
  • Collaborate with the treatment team to develop and implement treatment plans
  • Provide cross-coverage as needed to all service areas
Requirements
  • Music Therapy Degree (Bachelor's degree minimally) from an accredited school
  • Board certified and licensed as a music therapist in Virginia
  • Valid driver's license, which must remain valid and in good standing throughout employment
  • Knowledge of mental health disorders, developmental disorders, substance abuse disorders, and models of treatment interventions
  • Ability to develop, plan, organize, and implement music therapy interventions/programs
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work irregular hours, including weekends, holidays, and evenings
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a Music Therapist in a psychiatric healthcare facility, acute care, long-term, or correctional setting
  • Veterans and people with National Service experience
  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English
